NEW: Berkshire County Training Partnership Training Dates

Berkshire Country Training Partnership announces new and forthcoming course dates. See below for further details and how to book your place.

CHAIRMANSHIP SKILLS                            
When:           Wednesday 27 April 2016   6pm - 9:30pm
Where:          The Calcot Centre, Highview, Calcot, Reading  RG31 4XD
Registration and a sandwich buffet are available from 6.00pm for a prompt start at 6.30pm.

Who should come?
The training is aimed at experienced Councillors especially those considering becoming the Chairman/Vice Chairman of their Council or Chairman of a Council Committee.  Clerks are also welcome to attend.

What does it cover?
The role of the Chairman as specified in law establishing the responsibilities and duties 
•    Preparing and chairing meetings
•    Handling discussion/reporting and reaching a decision
•    Chairing a challenging meeting
•    Handling conflict
•    Professional conduct
Cost: 
£40.00 + VAT per delegate for Member Councils and                
£80.00 + VAT per delegate for Non-Member Councils

EMPLOYMENT TRAINING FOR COUNCILLORS AND CLERKS -
The Life-Cycle of an Employee
Includes: recruitment to dismissal, resignation or retirement 
 
When: Thursday 26 May 2016 - 10am - 3pm
Where: The Calcot Centre, Highview, Calcot, Reading RG31 4XD
Registration with refreshments from 9.30am, starting 10am, finishing at 3pm

Who should come?
The training will be valuable for both Councillors and Clerks, and particularly members of Staffing/Personnel/HR Committees.

What does it cover?
To coincide with the publication of the updated version of the NALC/SLCC ‘Being a Good Employer’ Guide*  this one day Employment event will cover: 
Recruitment - selecting the best candidate for your council
Rights and obligations - knowing what your legal obligations are as an employer and what rights your workers have
Performance Management - how to monitor, appraise and develop your staff
Dispute Resolution - how to cope if things go wrong
Ending the employment relationship - how to manage termination, redundancy, retirement fairly and legally
The event will be led by Bethan Osborne MCIPD, BALC’s HR and Employment Consultant who has experience in human resource management in local councils, banking, retail and further education sectors.

Cost:
£ 65.00 + VAT per delegate for Member Councils and                    
£130.00 + VAT per delegate for Non-Member Councils
