Keeping Up with 'The Challenge'(ing) world of Social Media

Jordan and Amy from The Challenge Society Bucks & Berks

On the evening of the 27th June (before England's dismal performance against Iceland!) a group of community minded folk gathered in the Calcot Learning Centre to hear more on how they can successfully use Social Media to promote news, events and galvanise their community.

CCB invited Amy and Jordan from The Challenge Society - Bucks & Berks to provide the training. The Challenge is the UK’s leading charity for building a more integrated society, a society in which there is understanding and appreciation of each other’s differences. Jordan had been through the The Challenge's National Citizens Service programme (NCS) which helps young people build skills for work and life whilst taking on new challenges and meeting new friends. She had recently been through a Social Media training course and was keen to share her expertise.

The workshop looked at people's fears and hopes of using Social Media and gave an overview of the different platforms before the group was split into two. The first group wanted help with learning how to set up a page on Facebook/Twitter from scratch and the second looked at how to make the most out of the functionality of these sites.

The feedback from the training included 'it was good to have younger people doing the teaching and the tutors really seemed to know their subject.' This training was supported by West Berkshire Council Adult Community Learning. CCB's next FREE training event is looking at Love Food, Hate Waste and how with a bit of re-education we can all save lots of ££ on our food shopping bill. To read more on this please click here.
